John Lee holds the DVG Chair and is a professor of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University. John holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He worked for ExxonMobil for 15 years, worked with reservoir description in the hydraulic fracturing research group, and ultimately headed its Major Fields Study Group. He joined the Petroleum Engineering faculty at Texas A&M in 1977. While at A&M, he also served as a consultant with S.A. Holditch & Associates, where he specialized in reservoir engineering aspects of unconventional gas resources, notably the characterization of hydraulic fractures, and served as Executive Vice President –Technology. He joined the University of Houston faculty in September 2011 and held the Cullen Distinguished University Chair until September 2015, when he rejoined the A&M faculty. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and has received numerous awards from SPE and SPEE.
