Please join the SPE Business Development Group for a presentation by Hilcorp Energy’s Senior Vice President for the Lower 48 West to discuss the oil and gas industry in Wyoming. While known for its prolific coal resources, the state also produces over 200,000 b/d of crude oil and 4.4 bcfd of natural gas – making it a top 10 petroleum producer in the United States today.

Hilcorp has been active in Wyoming since its 2005 acquisition of Kerr-McGee’s Powder River Basin assets. Mr. Wilbanks will speak about the opportunities and challenges of operating in the state including:

  • Current producing areas and avenues to grow production
  • Existing infrastructures and potential transport challenges
  • Overall operating environment and future opportunities

As Senior Vice President of Lower 48 West for Hilcorp Energy Company, Brian Wilbanks manages Hilcorp’s Rockies and San Juan Basin assets.  He also works closely with business development, land, as well as our midstream entity Harvest Pipeline Company.  Mr. Wilbanks joined Hilcorp in February 2012 as A&D Evaluations Manager, promoted to Director of A&D in January 2013, and was appointed Senior Vice President of A&D in November 2016.  He transitioned to Senior Vice President of Lower 48 West effective August 1, 2017.


Prior to Hilcorp, Mr. Wilbanks was with Goldman Sachs, Netherland Sewell & Associates, SM Energy, and Burlington Resources/ConocoPhillips. Mr. Wilbanks has 15 years of in depth upstream experience with 9 years concentrated in asset management and 6 years concentrated in upstream and midstream M&A.


Mr. Wilbanks holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Texas.  He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Independent Petroleum Association of America.
