Description

Meeting the demands of shorter project cycle times while bringing new facilities online remains a challenge in many oil & gas companies keeping them from achieving operational excellence.  While the topic of engineering data management and availability is not flashy, it is fundamental to meeting many of the challenges associated the operational excellence.  This discussion will focus on the principles and architecture required to deliver a solution where data and operational visualization is based on virtual reality technology integrated with engineering operational data.  Case studies will be used as the basis of our discussion.

Marc de Buyl has a diverse background and experience in geology, geophysics and petrophysics, mostly applied on technology integration for oil & gas exploration and production. He is now evangelizing the benefits of applying Virtual Worlds immersive environments to major producing facility operators for improving plant efficiency, safety and performance. He was co-editor of the first SEG Memoir on Reservoir Geophysics and a 1988-89 SPE Distinguished Lecturer, speaking on 3D integrated reservoir characterization and monitoring. Marc’s views on intelligent producing asset operation stem from 40 year experience in Upstream Oil & Gas, Mining and Nuclear Power Plant has taken him to some 30 countries.
