ConocoPhillips is developing the Magnolia field in 4,674 ft of water at Garden Banks 783 in the Gulf of Mexico. These high-angle wells are completed using dry trees from a TLP and require frac packs to help ensure high-rate, long-life, sand-free completions. The frac packs are pumped using a viscoelastic surfactant carrier fluid, and washpipe-conveyed downhole pressure and temperature gauges and radioactive tracers are used to help analyze the treatment results. This presentation will include a discussion of screen selection criteria, carrier fluid selection philosophy, perforation strategy, and alternate-path technology effectiveness. The presentation will also cover downhole pressure and temperature data, radioactive tracer logs, and revised operational practices that have contributed to the zero to negative skin completions across long perforated intervals that continue to produce sand free after extreme reservoir depletion.
