Description

This presentation on engineering ethics fulfills the continuing education requirements of various state boards of professional engineering registration. It offers a review of engineering codes of ethics prepared by state boards and professional societies. Case studies and situational illustrations will demonstrate practical methods of identifying the essentials in ethical decisions and resolving conflicts among ethical principles. Topics covered include the following:                       
  • Why are there ethical dilemmas?
  • The legal basis of engineering ethics.
  • Requirements of the Texas statute.
  • The moral basis of engineering ethics.
  • Engineer's roles vs. Manager's roles - Case Studies                                        

Who should attend?  Registered engineers who need to fulfill continuing education requirements, engineers who are interested in ethics in the workplace, engineers and engineering interns who are considering registration, professionals who interface with engineers or who purchase engineering services.

The presentation is a one-hour discussion of aspects of engineering ethics primarily designed to fulfill the continuing education requirements of various State Boards of Professional Engineering Registration.  It offers a review of Engineering Codes of Ethics prepared by State Boards and Professional Societies.  The presentation, through use of case studies and situational illustrations, provides practical methods of identifying the essentials in ethical decisions and resolving conflicts between ethical principles.

Brown’s undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He holds Master’s and PhD degrees in Engineering from The University of Tulsa. He is an active member of SPE, having served as member and chairman of several national committees and is currently a member of the AIME Distinguished Service Award Committee and incoming Chairman of the SPE Engineering Professionalism Committee. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and Oklahoma.
