Description

Operators around the world have been completing "conventional" HP/HT wells (up to 15,000 psi and 400 deg F) for many years. It was not until recently that operators became exceedingly interested in extending these completions into more challenging HP/HT reservoirs such as in deepwater and shelf deep gas.

This presentation will address the current market drivers that are influencing operators to attack these extremely challenging environments. In order to better understand the completion technology gaps, a three-tier categorization system will be discussed: HP/HT, Extreme HP/HT, and Ultra HP/HT. In addition the presentation will present case histories from each of these HP/HT categories and identify completion equipment selection considerations covering packers, subsurface safety valves and flow control equipment. In addition this paper will review the completion technology gaps that currently exist for Extreme HP/HT and Ultra HP/HT wells in the areas of seal systems, gripping systems, metallurgies, and testing capabilities.
