Description

This training will address the concepts of sustainability and integrated water management for the energy industry. These two concepts are closely related. Sustainability is a key metric for oil and gas companies that wish to continue the extraction of a finite resource for decades to come. Likewise, integrated water management provides many examples where water is used to extend the life of a field.

During this training, we will analyze practical strategies used in water management and consider them from the standpoint of long-term cost / benefit and Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO). These practical strategies include reservoir management, fracture control, injection and discharge water cleanliness, flow assurance, management of bacteria, asset integrity, scaling, compatibility and enhanced recovery. These strategies along with the consideration of long-term costs and benefits will provide support to the Techno-Economic Analysis of new technology. Water management applications will be described for onshore and offshore fields and for unconventionals. The information shared during this training can be used to make sensible technical and economic decisions regarding where and when to deploy capital to improve sustainability.
