Abstract

SpaceX was able to reinvent the space industry because they figured out a way to reuse the rockets. The Oil and Gas industry spends billions to develop subsurface assets which then are plugged and abandoned at the end of their perceived lifetime. Is it possible to reinvent the pore space for alternative use cases?

In this presentation, Moji will share the history and speculate on how biotechnology can impact upstream Oil and Gas and provides a tangible case study for subsurface biomanufacturing of natural hydrogen, coined as the Gold Hydrogen. This includes a technical overview of the technology, reservoir screening considerations, early learnings from the Permian Basin, and the plan ahead for commercial roll out of Gold Hydrogen.

Moji is a natural resource entrepreneur and a technology futurist. As the CEO of Cemvita, he leads a team of scientists and engineers that are creating radical solutions to reduce the carbon and environmental footprint of industries such as energy, chemicals, and mining. From converting waste to valuable fuels, to subsurface biomanufacturing of natural hydrogen, and using microorganisms to effectively extract lithium and copper from low-grade ore.

Fueled by curiosity and optimism, Moji's mission is to create the natural resource industry of the future. His vision is to help create a future where waste products and ready-to-retire infrastructure can be reimagined as the foundational drivers of economic growth and energy independence.
