Description
A high quality annular pack is critical to the reliability of high permeability oil and gas wells requiring sand control. Issues related to the quality of the annular pack and its interpretation play an important role in bean-up strategy, well performance, sand production and water influx complications. A detailed analysis of frac pack pumping practices, excess slurry reverse-out procedures and downhole flow direction during the reverse out was performed across a wide subset of frac packed wells. It is shown that interpretation of radioactive tracer logs combined with pumping data play an equally important role in assessing the quality of the annular pack and potential mechanisms that could lead to an inadequate annular pack. The presentation will include case histories across multiple Miocene assets and common themes identified as best practices to achieve a consistent high quality annular pack.
