Description

This presentation will focus on the emerging and existing petroleum activities of the former Unocal Corporation in Southeast Asia. This area of the world was a major component in Unocal’s asset value and one of the major drivers in its recent acquisition. A general overview of Unocal’s operations and exploration success in the SE Asia countries of; Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam will be discussed. Emphasis will be given to the emerging Indonesian deepwater gas trend in Makassar Straits. While these examples will be specific to Unocal, the trends in types of discoveries, market availability, infrastructure and environment will be characteristic to the whole of S.E. Asia.

Mike Grecco is currently Strategic Planning and Business Manager for the Facilities Engineering Department in Chevron’s Energy Technology Company. Formerly, Mike was a Principal Engineer for Unocal’s Global Engineering & Construction Group where he managed Unocal’s Deepwater Technology program and lead a team of technical peers which reviewed the technical excellence of all projects proposed to Unocal’s management for development. Mike was instrumental in Unocal obtaining over 13 million acres of deepwater offshore blocks worldwide. His primary responsibilities were in the identification of potential development concepts and determining the associated costs and schedules. Grecco received a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1973 and a Master of Ocean Engineering from Oregon State University in 1977. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of California, a member of SPE since 1980, and has served on several API Committees involving Floating Production Systems, Mooring Systems and Tension Leg Platforms.
