Talking about diversity and inclusion can be confusing and uncomfortable. We'll look at the history and most important terms and concepts regarding this work, and then discuss how you can become more knowledgeable and confident in conversations and interactions in diverse environments. There will be time for questions and answers as well. Specific take-aways will include:

  • Historical overview of diversity awareness
  • The "diversity in diversity" - the differences in people that can be related to bias are numerous
  • The ideal state you might like to see in your workplace, and why it matters to hold that in your awareness
  • Definitions of: representation, inclusion, equity, equality, privilege, individual unconscious bias, systemic bias
  • Phrases and terms to avoid
  • Questions to ask and tips to help you stay courageous and calm, and engage constructively
  • Resources: how to learn more about creating a more effective and more inclusive workplace and society
