Description

In this talk, we will first be discussing the fundamentals of miscible flooding. Then, we will review how to select the right solvent to recover the maximum amount of crude oil with minimal environmental impact. Finally, we will discuss how the cost of a miscible flooding process can be reduced by the carbon dioxide injection.

Berna Hascakir is an Associate Professor of petroleum engineering at Texas A&M University, a Flotek Industries, Inc. Career Development Professor, and the director of the Heavy Oil, Oil Shales, Oil Sands, & Carbonate Analysis and Recovery Methods (HOCAM) research team at Texas A&M University. She holds a BSc and a MSc degrees from Environmental Engineering and a Ph.D. degree from Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. She pursued postdoctoral studies at Stanford University in the Energy Resources Engineering Department and worked for Schlumberger in Venezuela, UK, and Colombia as a senior Heavy Oil Reservoir Engineer. She has more than 150 publications. She is an SPE Distinguished Member.
