Speaker #1 Company: SM Energy Company

Speaker #1 Bio: I currently work on the SM Energy Advanced Analytics and Emerging Technology team.  I have 17 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, working with and for operators of all sizes, both in the business and with other functions like IT and Finance.  There isn’t a single part of oil and gas that I haven’t touched.  My specialties are asking and answering questions with data, problem-solving, and telling stories with data.  I also write a professional blog and host a YouTube channel that focuses on analytics and data engineering with Alteryx and Spotfire.  After work, you’ll find me on my mountain bike.

Speaker #1 Abstract: Everything Changes But Always Stays the Same

This presentation will discuss my career journey in oil and gas.  It’s a talk about decision making, goal setting, and how your career goals and your life goals have to line up.  I’ll ask and answer the following questions --- How did I get into oil and gas?  Why did I stay?  How did I find my career path?  When did I know I had a career path?  When does it make sense to get a masters degree?  How do you choose a masters degree program?  How do you reinvent yourself?  If I had to do it over again, what would I change?  And finally, I’ll share what I think is good career advice from someone whose career is about half-way through.  Ultimately, it’s a talk about how everything changes but things still stay the same.

Speaker #2 Abstract: Move with the Cheese

We will all face challenges or go through tough times at some point in our lives. But we all have choices to make in how we perceive those challenges, which in turn will affect how we respond to them and what we get as a result. The key is to make opportunities out of our difficulties.
