Description

The SPE Members in Transition Seminar Series is designed to include a selection of topics of interest to SPE members who are transitioning in between jobs during the current industry downturn or who are looking for new career opportunities.  The agenda for the forty-eighth seminar in the series will include "Boosting Your Resume Profile During COVID-19 and Beyond", "Interviewing Essentials", "Transition from an Oil and Gas Career to a Data Science Career" and a “Discussion of Resources for SPE Members”.

He is an active member of the Association for Talent Development and other industry and academic organizations, in addition to having earned his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification. Zach is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University, with a research interest of leadership development. Zach Majzun provides essential interview preparation, execution, and follow up skills for oil and gas professionals. Once your resume gets you the interview, this session will help close the deal. Framed around a sales mindset, we will focus on the dynamics of the interview, how to handle certain questions, how to determine if the position is right for you, and the basics of negotiation strategies. This session will be more of a facilitated discussion, rather than a lecture, and will be geared for active participation in the spirit of vicarious learning.

He now works as a client-facing data science consultant for Tessella, an industry-agnostic data science consulting company. Since switching careers, he has been actively helping people find their way into data science. Matt holds Geology degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Virginia Tech; and a data science certificate from Thinkful.

Machine learning, data science, and AI are all the rage across the business world. Across the spectrum, people are interested in gaining an awareness of these new tools, learning how to leverage them in their current roles, or, potentially, shift careers into data science. This talk will focus on the range of ways to learn data science and how to choose the best personal learning path given your personal and professional goals.
