In simple subsurface environments it is currently possible to drill a well in a single trip below the first pressure bearing casing.  Emerging drilling technologies are helping industry to extend this capability to more challenging environments.  This talk will explore the progress in the development and integration of the drilling and completion technologies required to drill and complete a well in fewer trips, ultimately leading to a one-trip well.  The talk will also address the challenges that remain to achieving this goal.
