Description

Petralis Energy Resources commenced the Tennessee Colony Field Project in East Texas by purchasing 2,680 acres held by 8 producing wells in 2019. Petralis Energy Resources has identified at least two bypassed pay zones with hydrocarbon potential and established a comprehensive development strategy for the field and adjacent areas.

As the first phase of the project, Petralis Energy Resources has engineered and launched a program of workovers, acid hydraulic fracturing treatments with diverters and smart tracers for production stimulation in the field. The plan was to double the oil, gas and natural-gas liquids, production rates from legacy wells, to verify geological, reservoir and geomechanical assumptions, and to identify future development prospects for new well's drilling.

The project commenced with the Levi Shed well workover that included, an existing perforation and poor-quality cement bond intervals squeeze, new pay zone interval perforation and the acid fracturing simulation program. Well stimulation included 3 continuous cycles of hydrochloric acid, water, and diverters injection. The state-of-the-art smart tracers were added before and after each diverter stage for flow profile mapping and diversion efficiency assessment. In addition, adjacent wells sampling campaign was launched to identify potential communication between old and new pay zones.

The smart tracer technology is based on unique particles and utilizes advanced sub-atomic spectroscopy measurement techniques to map the production area, to evaluate each fracturing cycle performance and to study near-by wells interference. The smart tracers’ data integration with fracturing pressure diagnostics helped to improve the target reservoir development approach and provided live performance-flow-profile data for the entire field. This data was used to optimize completion and workover strategies, to achieve the best wells productivities, and to significantly enhance the reservoir geology understanding.

This paper describes the project results including the fracturing pressure diagnostics with a multi-well smart tracer program integration. Since smart tracers were analyzed over several months from numerous wells, Petralis Energy Resources have gained an insight into continuous flow profiling data to optimize well performance on a regular basis when new production-diagnostics results were received.

Talgat Shokanov started QuantumPro, Inc. in 2017 after 15-years of diverse international career with Schlumberger with the vision to develop a new and innovative micro tracer technology. With a background in hydraulic fracturing operations, R&D, business management, and finance, Talgat is an entrepreneur who identified an opportunity for this ground-breaking technology and is now leading QuantumPro, Inc. to develop multiple applications in the hydraulic fracturing domain.

In his prior roles with Schlumberger, he spearheaded the global business and technology development of the Cuttings Re-Injection via hydraulic fracturing including subsurface engineering design, disposal domain mapping, diagnostics and monitoring analysis. The application of these processes and technologies triple the business size, secure dominant market position and become a vital part for deep water, arctic and remote oil and gas projects deployment.

Talgat is well recognized for technical expertise and resolution of highly complex issues in hydraulic fracturing, multiple fractures mechanics and modeling, fracturing injection and decline pressure analysis, subsurface engineering and containment assurance which enhanced the stature of the industry in the environmentally compliant drilling and subsurface injection assurance and resulted in the publication of many articles and patents.

Talgat is recipient of Prestigious SPE Award for Distinguished Contribution to Petroleum Engineering and SPE Section Service Award for Valued Service.
