Description

Knowledge of clay chemistry and mineralogy is inherently vital to the upstream Oil & Gas industry. Because clay minerals both affect wellbore stability and constitute a percentage of the solid phase of drilling fluids, their behavior and methodology of control is paramount during both the well planning and the execution phase of drilling. This course breaks down clay chemistry to its basics while offering a look at the available products that utilize clays for specific purposes related to drilling.

David Hugh Durham is currently sales manager for Byk USA Inc. located in Seguin and Gonzalez, Texas. He began his career in the United States Coast Guard before attending and graduating with honors from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agronomy. In addition to this, Mr. Durham holds a MS in soil science and clay mineralogy. For more than 30 years, his experience in the field of clay mineralogy has included an array of experiences such as research chemistry, project management, commercial development, and sales management. Mr. Durham is listed as the inventor/co-inventor for eight U.S. patents.
