Description

Imagine an undersea network of wireless sensors that return real-time seismic data to the surface. How about a device the size of a penny that contains the entire asset description, maintenance and inspection history, is updateable, and is located right on the asset? What about a satellite transmitter that works anywhere on the planet, can relay readings from any kind of sensor, and is about the size of a portable CD player?

Technologies like sensors, sensor networks, RFID, and wireless communications are some of the emerging technologies that are being used to make assets and equipment intelligent and interactive. Within the energy industry, these technologies are in the process of being adopted in areas like asset management and tracking, supply chain, and scada replacement/field data capture. RFID specifically is getting quite a bit of hype these days - I'll help you to understand why and whether it is deserved. Sprinkled in will be some interesting examples of other ways these technologies are being used by clients in other industries.

Topics that will be covered are:

  • How high-performing companies use IT and innovative technology as a differentiator.
  • Key technologies that are making an impact in the energy industry.
  • Key energy industry applications and case studies.
