The SPE Members in Transition Seminar Series is designed to include a selection of topics of interest to SPE members who are transitioning in between jobs during the current industry downturn or who are looking for new career opportunities.  The agenda for the thirty-first seminar in the series will include “Secrets of the Executive Search World (and how to make them work for you),Working Effectively Across Cultures, “Data Science: A Transferable Skillset Across Industries” and a “Discussion of Resources for SPE Members”.

Often, individuals going through a job transition do not fully understand how retained executive search firms really work.  Learning how these firms conduct searches can greatly improve an executive’s odds of landing that next great opportunity.  This is particularly true for senior leadership roles.  Chris will present an honest overview of the search business, the methods and motivations of search firms and hiring companies, and most importantly: how you can benefit from this knowledge.

Recent computational and technical advancements in machine learning and data science have shown numerous successful stories across many industries. In this talk, data science and analytics will be presented as a toolbox that can be widely applied across multiple industries when combined with appropriate subject and business domain expertise. Data science use cases from different domains will be highlighted.
