The Business Development Study Group of the SPE Gulf Coast Section invites you to the 2018 SPEGCS Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestments Symposium, a one-day workshop introducing early and mid-career professionals to the commercial and transactional side of the oil and gas industry. It is open to engineers, finance, land, and other professionals interested in this aspect of our business.

The SPEGCS M,A&D Symposium will be held in the Chevron Auditorium  located in downtown Houston on Tuesday, January 9, with Networking Reception to follow at the Hyatt Regency.  Keynote Speakers include Bill Marko (Jefferies) and  Carlos A. De Ayala (Linn Energy). There will also be 4 Topical Sessions led by industry experts with case studies, discussion / Q&A to highlight the program.

The MA&D Symposium will provide an overview from deal conception to deal closing featuring Keynote and Session talks and discussions by A&D experts as well as generous opportunities for networking with about 200 industry peers. As the current state of the industry applies stress to operators, strategic portfolio management becomes an important driver in creating shareholder value or even survival. The MA&D Symposium will provide detailed insights into the Role, Process, Workflow, Participants and Practices of deal making to give participants the knowledge and network you need to consider opportunities as an A&D professional.

William "Bill" Marko is a Managing Director of Jefferies LLC in  the Energy Investment Banking Group.  He has managed more than $60 billion of asset and corporate transactions. His client base consists of many of the world's 50 largest oil and gas companies.  Prior to joining Randall & Dewey, subsequently purchased by Jefferies, Mr. Marko worked more than 18 years in various engineering, operations and commercial roles at Mobil Oil, followed by COO of Madison Energy Advisors, a transaction advisory firm.
With more than 35 years of industry experience in worldwide acquisition, divestment and new business development, he has evaluated transactions in all major U.S. basins and more than 70 countries. 
Bill is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana and is on the Tulane University President’s Council and the Board of the Tulane School of Science & Engineering.

Carlos De Ayala joined Linn Energy in 2011 and serves as Vice President of Business Development, Strategy, and Planning.  Since then, he has participated or led in closing over $12 Billion in transactions including acquisitions, divestitures, asset swaps, and joint ventures across a broad array of conventional and resource plays.  Prior to joining Linn Energy, De Ayala served as COO of Beryl Resources and held leadership roles as well with Pogo Producing Company and Norcen Explorer Ltd.  De Ayala holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Texas and an MBA from St. Thomas University.  De Ayala is an active member in SPE and ADAM and serves on the External Advisory Council of the University of Texas Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Department.
