Description

Join the SPE Gulf Coast Section as we celebrate another year of student success, emerging professionals, established industry leaders and long-time members and supporters!

Every year the Society of Petroleum Engineers Gulf Coast Section (SPE-GCS) holds a banquet to honor SPE Scholarship recipients, Young Professionals, the SPE Legion of Honor, and the recipients of the SPE Gulf Coast Section North America Regional awards and SPE Gulf Coast Section awards.

The 2017 SPE Gulf Coast Section Scholarship and Awards Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2016 at the Red Oak Ballroom at the Norris Convention Center, City Centre Houston near the Sam Houston Tollway at I-10 from 6pm to 10pm.  The theme of the Banquet for 2017 is "Sustainability and the Future of Oil and Gas."

The SPE- GCS gives over $100,000 annually in scholarships. The annual SPE-GCS Awards Banquet recognizes the high school seniors and college students who have received an SPE-GCS, Communities In Schools – Houston, or SPE Auxiliary scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarship recipients and their parents are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to welcome outstanding students into the petroleum industry and to make a positive impression on members of the community. In addition, this event also recognizes our Legion of Honor award recipients as well as our SPE Sectional and Regional award winners. Members of the Legion of Honor have served SPE for fifty years and will be honored for their long-standing commitment to our professional society.

Magician Ben Jackson is returning to our annual event. Forget the top hats, big boxes, and furry woodland creatures. The ancient art form of magic is getting a face lift and Ben Jackson is leading the forefront with just two hands, more than a decade of practice, and some serious digital dexterity.

In 2010 Ben Jackson became one of the youngest magicians to win the World Magic Seminar’s International Close-up Magic Competition in Las Vegas, NV. He had a lot in common with the presenter, Lance Burton, a former World Magic Seminar winner 30 years prior. He has appeared at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, in MAGIC magazine, and in the newly released book, Magic’s Most Amazing Stories.

Ben’s past clients include British Petroleum, Hewlett-Packard, Lincoln Financial, Dave Lesar, the current C.E.O. of Halliburton, and celebrities such as Tom Colicchio, star of the Food Network.

Most recently Ben won 1st place, the People’s Choice Award, and the coveted Medal of Merit from the 2012 Society of American Magicians’ National Close-up Magic Competition at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, NV. With an unprecedented“triple win” from the oldest and most prestigious magical society, it’s safe to say that Ben Jackson is taking the magic world by storm.

Ben's performance is sponsored by PIKA Industries.
