Junior Coach Leadership Program Kickoff:
Unleashing your Super Hero Power!
Playworks recruits 4th and 5th graders from our partner schools who might otherwise be disruptive, shy or physically unsure to participate in the Junior Coach Leadership Program. Throughout the school year, Playworks’ school-based adult coaches gives these students special attention at meetings after school and extra responsibilities at recess. Junior Coaches attend to their own recess as well as recess for younger students where they ‘run point’ on games set up in the schoolyard. You may not realize it, but play and sports introduce problems that need to be solved, such as, what to play, who plays & how to play, providing Junior Coaches the opportunity to learn skills in cooperation, conflict resolution and appropriate communication.
Playworks, along with its partner schools has found that this peer leadership program improves self-esteem, communication skills and provides students with the motivation to do well in class.
To celebrate the Junior Coaches’ commitment, Playworks will invite these students and their families to explore their inner superhero at a Halloween-themed Junior Coach Kickoff Event!
The students and their families will arrive dressed up as his or her favorite superhero, ready to be active and play together!
We need 10-15 volunteers to explain, coach and play teambuilding games with the students and their families. We are also looking for these volunteers to facilitate group discussions about your superpowers AKA leadership skills you use at work and in the community!
We will end the day with a trick or treat booth stocked with healthy snacks and prizes.
