Description

Part 3 of the 5 part Expanding Facilities Knowledge series, this session presents an
overview of deepwater floating production systems used by the oil and gas
industry.  A summary of the main characteristics of different floating production system types (TLP, Spar,
Semisubmersible and Monohull) will be given along with the pros and cons of
each system.  This session will also present selected recent innovations and future challenges to the floating
production systems.  Methodologies and considerations on how to select a floating production system for oil and gas field development will be also discussed.

This workshop is aimed at imparting basic concepts and facilities knowledge to
graduate new hires and summer interns of EP companies and contractors, while
allowing opportunities for networking with other young industry professionals
in the industry.

 Mr. Chunfa Wu, Ph.D. hasover twenty two (22) years of management and engineering experience in field development, concept selection, FEED, and detail design of floating production systems for the offshore oil and gas industry.

Mr. Chunfa Wu, Ph.D. hasover twenty two (22) years of management and engineering experience in field development, concept selection, FEED, and detail design of floating production systems for the offshore oil and gas industry.


Chunfa has worked on many floating system projects such as Tension Leg Platforms (TLPs),
Semisubmersibles, Spars, FPSO’s, FPUs, jack-up platforms, mobile offshore base,
and river crane barges.  He has a strong technical background with a Ph.D. in naval architecture and is a respected authority on hydrodynamics and floating system design.


As a founding partner of Sea Engineering, Inc., he has demonstrated keen business sense and strong
management capability by growing a two man operation into a premium floating
system design company of over 100 employees.  He is currently Vice President Floating Systems for INTECSEA, responsible for the day to day operation of the floating systems business unit
