About this Workshop

Abstract

This two-day workshop will bring together a focused group of professionals who are engaged in reserve and resource assessment. Attendees are urged to actively participate in discussions on the interpretation and application of the PRMS and the recent document, Guidelines for Application of PRMS. The PRMS is the recognized global standard of petroleum resource classification, accepted by numerous national entities and E&P companies for internal reporting use.

The application of PRMS requires dialogue within the industry to ensure that it remains relevant. This workshop is a unique opportunity to converse with peers and experts who seek to both improve and provide clarity to the accuracy, reliability, and utility of the PRMS.

The workshop technical committee is comprised of reserve evaluation experts with members from several of the PRMS-sponsoring committees.

Workshop Objectives

  • Provide an overview of the key elements of PRMS and the Application Guidelines (PRMS-AG)
  • Present brief case studies and promote extensive discussion and Q&A
  • Discuss interpretation challenges and areas for improvement in reserves and resources evaluation and reporting
  • Discuss applications of PRMS with recognized experts:
    • in a large plenary session
    • in smaller breakout discussions on select topics with session feedback
  • Participate in an interactive panel discussion on reserves and resources evaluation covering its
      status, challenges, perception, and future
  • Network with peers during breakfasts, lunches, coffee breaks, and receptions

Who Should Attend

Recommended participants for this workshop are those who are involved in estimation and reporting of reserves and resources using PRMS to support their business.

The workshop will be limited in attendance to 100 participants.

Workshop Guidelines

Workshops maximize the exchange of ideas among attendees and presenters through brief technical presentations followed by extended Q&A periods. Focused topics attract an informed audience eager to discuss issues critical to advancing both technology and best practices.

Many of the presentations are in the form of case studies, highlighting engineering achievements and lessons learned. In order to stimulate frank discussion, no proceedings are published and members of the press are not invited to attend.

Documentation

Proceedings from the workshop will not be published; therefore, formal papers and handouts are not requested of speakers or panel members. A URL containing released copies of the workshop presentations will be available to attendees following the workshop.

Commercialism

In remaining consistent with workshop objectives and SPE guidelines, commercialism in presentations will not be permitted. Company logos should be used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter(s).

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Attendees will receive 1.6 CEUs.

One CEU equals 10 contact hours of participation. CEUs will be awarded through SPE Professional Development for participation and completion of SPE workshop. A permanent record of a participant’s involvement and awarding of CEUs will be maintained by SPE.
