Update on Global Tax Landscape for Upstream Operations
PwC will present an overview of current and proposed legislative changes applicable to upstream operations in some key countries around the world.
 
The discussion will include a focus on the US, Brazil, Iraq, Norway and Nigeria. PwC will discuss the competitive impact these legislative changes are having on inbound investment into select countries and some of the challenges companies are facing from a tax perspective. 
 
Kenny Hawsey, the US Energy Tax Leader for PwC, will lead the presentation/discussion to help attendees understand the impact on competitiveness in the global upstream business.

Kenny is a partner in PwC's Houston office and is part of the global energy group and specializes in taxation of upstream oil & gas operations. 


 


Kenny has over 21 years of US and international tax experience working with large and mid-cap multi-national corporations (MNCs).  Kenny's experience includes international assignments to Russia (Moscow), Azerbaijan (Baku), The United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh).  Kenny has worked with many MNC clients investing into these foreign jurisdictions and has negotiated and dealt with a number of different concession agreements.  Kenny was in Azerbaijan in the late 1990's when many foreign oil companies were investing into production sharing agreements (PSA) and therefore Kenny was very involved with the evolution of the PSA in Azerbaijan and was involved with many negotiations with the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and the Ministry of Taxes.  While in Azerbaijan, Kenny was also the leader of our practice in the Caucasus which included Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Georgia.  Kenny 's most recent international assignment was in Saudi Arabia where he served as the Middle East Energy Tax Leader and the Saudi Tax Leader and he had the opportunity to work with energy clients across the Middle East.


 


Kenny's experience includes dealing with many concession agreements in different locations and many cross border transactions in upstream energy companies as well as with international oil field service companies.  Kenny has also worked on a number of acquisitions in the last two years in the Middle East including tax due diligence and tax structuring.


 


Kenny has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a Masters in Accounting (Tax emphasis) from Auburn University.   Kenny is a member of the AICPA and the Alabama Society of CPA's.  Kenny was the President of the American Chamber of Commerce for 3 years while in Azerbaijan and in that role worked very closely with the US Embassy and the Azerbaijan Government in their development into a free market economy.  Kenny recently served on the Steering Committee for the American Business Group of Riyadh.
