Casing and liner drilling is once again gaining momentum as a new technology offering unique solutions for some of the operators drilling problems and hence reducing drilling costs in today’s drilling industry. However in reality the idea of casing drilling is not new, from the early 1900’s there has been talk and applications of this type of  drilling technique with varying degrees of success, yet for all its apparent advantages it has remained a niche drilling technique. The presentation will review some of the history of casing drilling. Will attempt to outline the techniques currently used for this operation and discuss some of the past applications and future potential for drilling with casing.
