Description

The presentation discusses how surveillance data have been interpreted and integrated into reservoir models and reservoir understanding, in order to steer the development of two major deepwater subsea Gulf of Mexico oil fields during the first 3 years of production. It is shown how pressure data from permanent downhole gauges and other sources are receiving a much deeper interpretation than used to be the case, using techniques such as pressure deconvolution, before entering into history match.  Other new techniques, such as analysis of downhole temperature trends and produced oil characteristics, and use of pressure data to better understand water breakthrough, are also being brought increasingly into the picture.
This compensates in part for the difficulty of obtaining more tradition data such as PLT.  The talk also discusses how the information has been incorporated into the reservoir modeling and history match process.  This is also characterized by new techniques and workflows, including multiple modeling and streamlines.  Finally there is discussion of how the field development plan, and the work performed by the team, has been influenced by the pace of data integration and learning.
