Keynote Speakers:
Dr. Ganesh Thakur, Vice President, Global Advisor for Reservoir Management, and Fellow of Chevron Energy Technology Co, recently nominated by the Society of Petroleum Engineers board of directors as the 2012 SPE President. Thakur is a world-recognized leader in reservoir engineering & simulation, secondary recovery, reservoir and well productivity improvement, heavy oil, horizontal well technology and EOR. He is also known for the emergence of reservoir management (RM) —in particular waterflooding— as a key interdisciplinary practice. Thakur has an impressive list of publications and teaching engagements conducted around the world. His skills and expertise are called upon widely in the design and operation of RM programs, mentoring technical professionals, and serving as an ambassador of technical capabilities to National Oil Companies and Government Ministries. He is an SPE Distinguished Member and has served as Technical Director – Reservoir for the Board of Directors, and an SPE Distinguished Lecturer.
Jim Longbottom, Global Business Development and Marketing Manager for Halliburton Completion Tools. He has extensive experience in the energy sector having worked in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and North Sea, primarily dealing with completion and sand-control technology. Jim started with Halliburton in 1980 and has held positions in operations, sales, product development and commercialization living in New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, and Stavanger. He spent a couple of years with Weatherford and 10 years with University of Houston and texas A&M University working on development of energy research. In parallel with his university work he performed consulting services on innovation methodologies, routing of the Alaskan gas pipeline, and remote monitoring of abandoned deepwater appraisal wells. Longbottom holds a 1979 BS degree in Ocean Engineering from Texas A&M University. He has authored several SPE papers and he is an inventor on 38 US patents. He is also a 2010 graduate of the Halliburton President’s Leadership Excellence Program.
