Description

BP has identified it is important to have high bandwidth, low latency and reliability for servicing high production platforms. Over the past 5 years, BP had developed a communications strategy to deliver on this based on deploying fiber in some in critical hydrocarbon basins such as North Sea, Azerbaijan and most recently Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico fiber system is a world class system using off the shelf technology which has been successfully built and operated for the past two years. This includes remaining in service during Hurricane Ike. From conception through to operations, there have been several challenges which have been addressed and are now being used as new systems in places like Angola are being considered.
