Description

A novel effort to improve production from carbonate reservoirs has been gaining considerable worldwide interest. The technique involves pumping acid to create new multi-lateral production tunnels. Post treatment production rates have been considerably higher than those seen from bullheaded treatments. The acid is circulated to the formation via coiled tubing and an optimized bottom hole assembly. This presentation will cover the testing, optimization, and operational results realized so far. Case histories from over twenty operations will be presented, together with information on candidate selection. The techniques applicability to the Permian Basin will be discussed.

Mr. Steven Craig is a Region Engineer in the Houston, Texas, Regional Office for BJ Services Coiled Tubing Division. He received a Bachelors Degree from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh in Mechanical Engineering in 1990. He is a Registered Charted Engineer with the Engineering Council in London and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has worked in the petroleum industry for 17 years all for BJ Services or its legacy companies. He has worked in the UK, Germany and Norway prior to transferring to the US in 2002. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers since 1992. He has authored and co-authored several SPE papers on the subject of coiled tubing operations.
