Description

Join the SPE-GCS Business Development Study Group (BDSG) for the “$100 / Barrel View” of these select industry participants and identify what related opportunities may be available for your company in the current and forecast era of high prices. Review their business plans, hear of their successes, and meet their Business Development teams to discuss where a “win-win” deal can be achieved.

The popular format of a Business & Social Networking hour, with complimentary Hors D’ Oeuvres and a cash bar, followed by an hour-long program, will begin at 5:30 pm in the Mezzanine. Please enjoy this evening with BDSG colleagues!

         Industry Viewpoints:
    Business Development
in a $100 / Barrel world

The 90’s were a decade of consolidation, with a steady spin-off of non-core fields by the Majors and Super-Majors. In the process, substantial assets were cashed in to fund mega-projects in Deepwater and International venues worldwide. Buyers, meanwhile, re-developed these older fields where technology and attention to costs restored profitability. With the resurgence of product prices (up almost 50% since 1/1/07!), both the super-Major and the regional independent have balance sheets that are robust beyond precedent. What are the new frontiers, and what are the trends we might expect in the next 1 to 5 to 10 years in the era of $100 oil prices? Will the Majors and large Independents, confronted with questions of access and tougher fiscal terms be willing to sell viable producing fields? Or will the hunger for reserves, and ready internal funding create a new round of consolidation, and acquisitions of reserves on an “as available” basis? Will the focus be on significant undeveloped assets that now promise high returns at today’s prices? Are resource plays, unconventional gas and heavy oil deposits the “wave of the future”? What “new frontiers” may evolve? How is the issue of technical manpower affecting the strategy of industry?

ROBERT M. (BOB) TESSARI

President & CEO, Turnkey E & P Inc.

Mr. Tessari began his oilfield career in 1965 working on the drilling rigs for Parker Drilling in Canada. Four years later, he attended the University of Alberta receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He began his engineering career with Tenneco for 2 years in Calgary then spent the next eight years working overseas as a drilling engineer for ARCO in Indonesia and later as AMOCO Egypt’s drilling superintendent in their Gulf of Suez offshore operation. In 1982, he joined a small drilling company in Canada that designed, manufactured and operated six land rigs. While managing this company, Mr. Tessari formed TESCO Drilling Technology in 1986 to do research and development on new drilling tools and processes. In 1993, Mr. Tessari took the company public as TESCO Corporation.  TESCO was successful in developing a portable top drive system and commercialized this product for worldwide use. TESCO also developed the world’s first integrated underbalanced drilling system, the tools and process for CASING DRILLING®, and the proprietary Casing Drive System™. He has been President and Chief Executive Officer of TESCO since its inception until 2005, when he became its Chief Technology Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.
