JOB HOTLINES
"Job hotlines" are another source of traditional job search leads which complement newspaper adds. A job hotline is usually a voice phone recorded message (although modem-access services are available such as the SPE BBS @ 952-6622) listing job openings at a particular company or agency. The Houston Geological Society even has a job hotline service for the geological community. Several to consider include (but are certainly not limited to):
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers - members only - (214) 746-4900
- American Society of Chemical Engineers - 575-4348
- City of Houston - 658-3799
- Enron Corp - 853-5884
- Environmental Protection Agency - (214) 655-6560
- Federal Jobs (National) - (210) 229-6611
- Fluor Daniel Co. - 263-8100
- Harris County - 755-5044
- Houston Geological Society - 785-9729
- Metro - Administration - 739-4089
- NASA - Johnson Space Center - 483-2135
- Rice University - 527-6080
Ironically, these job hotlines are not well advertised. If you have engineering-related additions to the above list, please call Don Williamson @ (713) 955-0566 or send an e-mail to 75477.766@compuserve.com.
