Career Transition Primer
Where did all the headhunters go? They're still out there, but they are targeting the construction and petrochem professions at this time. Headhunters make their money (mostly commissions) by placing personnel in the harder to fill positions. In 1980 they worked the upstream oil business. In 2000 they are working "greener pastures". They may be back to us some day, but for now, they may not return your phone calls. It's also difficult to get their attention if you are doing a career change. Headhunters usually prefer to work with industry-experienced professionals.
