Biography

Abhinandan (Abhi) Kohli currently works as a Senior Petrophysicist for Shell, US. Abhi is a petroleum engineer by background with over 10 years of industry experience spanning technical and managerial roles in subsurface project maturation and development planning. His expertise lies in Formation Evaluation, Quantitative Interpretation, Seismic-Reservoir modelling and Well Delivery Projects. In his current role, he combines his geoscience knowledge with machine learning algorithms to analyze geological data optimizing the recovery of reserves and uses Multi Scenario Modelling for faster project execution and better uncertainty understanding. 

After starting his career in India, he worked as an Operational Petrophysicist at PDO, Oman which was followed by an assignment in the Netherlands. He then went on to work in Basra, Iraq before returning to the Netherlands as an Opportunity Lead for Near Field Exploration and Abandonment Projects. As an associate subject matter expert for Integrated Reservoir Modelling at Shell, he has published eight technical papers as the main and co-author with SPE, AAPG and SPWLA. Abhi sits in the Executive Committee as a Treasurer and Board Member for Shell Asia Pacific Employee Resource Group. Before joining Shell, he worked as a researcher for a US based climate NGO named 350.org.

He has been serving and contributing to SPE at various levels for over 12 years. He was awarded SPE STAR scholarship and Young Member Outstanding Service Award for his contributions. He attended the Emerging Leaders Alliance in 2018 and was also invited to Antarctica by the 2041 Foundation to talk about the the future energy scenarios and climate change challenges.
