The setup:
5 startups present a 5 min pitch followed by a 10 min feedback from the panel (2.5 mins from each of the 4 panelists).

Sharks:

1. Andrew Poon

Andrew currently helps small and medium sized businesses grow, by aligning the company’s strengths, business plan, and customer needs taking into account the competitive landscape. He is a Chartered Engineer and professional member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Andrew has over thirty-five years of business experience ranging from startups to large integrated corporations like Shell, ExxonMobil and Schlumberger. His post graduation career began with teaching high school, selling encyclopedias, electronics instructor at community college, entering the oil and gas industry as a field engineer on drilling rigs. Andrew has had diverse assignments of progressive responsibility in engineering, sales, operations management, acquisitions and divestitures consulting, strategic marketing and executive management. He has lived and worked in Latin America, North America, the Middle East and Europe.

Andrew has led strategic marketing for a seismic company as that company grew from an equipment supplier to an integrated geophysical company, and helped a Europe based startup technology company successfully introduce the business in the USA.

 

2. Hossein Rokhsari

Hossein has been investing in the O&G technology space since 2013, leading 20+ investments in collaboration with many E&P and OFS companies. His areas of diligence and investment include subsurface characterization and imaging, data analytics, oilfield water management, downhole tools, automation and mobile oil field solutions.

Prior to Darcy, Hossein spent 8 years at McKinsey & Company, in the Energy and Oil & Gas practice. As a Partner, Hossein advised many CEOs and executives of Fortune 100 companies, private equity investors and sovereign wealth funds in North America, Europe, Middle East and Southeast Asia.

 

3. Lance Robinson

Lance is an internationally experienced energy and environment sector leader with over 30 years of experience. He has extensive experience with startups, technology project development, and business management, and has worked within large and small organizations alike. With an engineering background and MBA training, Lance offers a unique set of skills and experiences for the development of business and technology, helping them to overcome complex technical and commercial challenges to achieve results.

4. Trent Jacobs

Trent Jacobs is the Digital Editor for the Journal of Petroleum Technology, the flagship publication of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the most circulated monthly magazine in the oil and gas industry. Trent holds more than a decade of experience in journalism and communications. His career began as an international correspondent in Haiti and his subsequent work as a newspaper reporter in Texas earned multiple awards for outstanding journalism. 

Trent has also served in a communications capacity for a leading subsea service company that played a critical role in the response to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon blowout and invented the world’s first deepwater well containment system. For the past 4-years, he has been covering emerging technologies and producing in-depth reports on the upstream industry’s biggest challenges from his hometown of Houston.

 

About SPE Entrepreneurship Cell:

The Entrepreneurship Cell is a newly formed committee within the SPE Gulf Coast Section. This initiative aims to share success stories and learnings from existing oil and gas startups with the SPE community and to become the one-stop knowledge transfer shop for any oil and gas entrepreneur.

The group founders are young entrepreneur and intrapreneurs from Marathon Oil, Halliburton, National Oilwell Varco, and Biota Technology and set to hold monthly events such as panel discussions, shark tank style pitch and feedback sessions, startup CEO speeches, and happy hours.
