Experience

I retired in May 2018 after 36 years combined with Mobil and ExxonMobil, having successfully transitioned from a technical interpreter position into a global upstream commercial leadership role.

I have a broad technical and commercial background in the upstream oil & gas industry, which has been developed in successful roles including supervision of upstream staff groups and operating ventures, contributor to project development teams, negotiator of agreements with joint venture partners / host governments / domestic US gas transportation companies, and as commercial advisor for international asset acquisitions and divestments.

My accomplishments have involved major transactions and project management, daily operations and product marketing, internal and external negotiations, and managing / mentoring / training.

Aug 2019 – March 2020 Commercial Consultant, Value Chain Development
Cenergy International (ExxonMobil Contractor), Houston, TX

• Coordination of gas market studies supporting annual ExxonMobil reserves review.
• Generated market advisories for two established affiliates and two new opportunity areas.

Sept 2011 – May 2018 Commercial Manager, Global Project Development – New Areas
ExxonMobil Gas & Power Marketing, Houston, TX

• Primary commercial interface with ExxonMobil Exploration and Ventures groups for new opportunities in Africa, Asia Pacific and Americas regions. Designed and implemented process for gas market advisories leading to consultations on 70+ opportunities and 12 captures.
• Project development consultant on discoveries in Tanzania, Kurdistan, Guyana, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique. Negotiated granting instruments, joint venture agreements and joint operating agreements on new venture projects in Guyana, Kurdistan, China and Brazil.
• Trained and supervised three staff members in New Areas support team.
• Business development support for successful captures in US unconventional resource plays in Marcellus / Utica and Haynesville trends.

Aug 2005 – Sept 2011 Transportation Manager, US Gulf of Mexico Offshore

• Primary interface with third-party offshore gas pipelines responsible for delivering equity gas and NGL’s from GOM delivery points including Mobile Bay, shelf and deepwater.
• Business development lead for three deepwater GOM gas projects. Managed RFQ for construction of Keathley Canyon Interconnect gas gathering system (in service 2014).
• Negotiated service agreements and new facility construction agreements with third parties, and favorably settled disputes.
• Led US gas operations management team for remote business activity during Hurricane Ike.
• Conducted subject matter expert training program on transportation and processing agreement fundamentals.


Feb 2000 – Aug 2005 Senior Commercial Advisor
ExxonMobil Exploration Company, Houston, TX

• Commercial support for heritage Mobil assets post-merger, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Nigeria, Kazakhstan and St. Pierre et Miquelon (offshore eastern Canada).
• Completed divestment of Brazil heavy oil and Nova Scotia deepwater assets.
• Commercial lead on development of the Venezuela La Ceiba exploration discovery. Led negotiations for contract extension and work program revisions (with PdVSA and partners).
• Resource advisor for ExxonMobil’s “Industry Gas Outlook” predicting long-term supply trends for gas in the Americas and in Africa.

June 1998 – Feb 2000 Exploration Supervisor

• Provided technical leadership of a five-to-nine person exploration group generating ready-to-invest prospects in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico Pliocene-Miocene plays. Responsible for employee assessment, ranking and career development. Consulted during personnel decisions and pre-merger staffing.
• Coordinated OCS 179 GOM lease sale decisions in 2000 prior to ExxonMobil merger.
• Managed geoscience college recruiting for New Orleans office.

Aug 1991 – June 1998 Commercial Advisor / Negotiator
Mobil New Exploration and Producing Ventures, Dallas, TX

• Negotiated contract arrangements on all light oil opportunities for Mobil de Venezuela, including the Concession Agreement and JOA for the La Ceiba exploration block and study area bidding agreements for two producing field bid rounds and the Apertura exploration round.
• Venture manager for the Venezuela Quiamare-La Ceiba producing area, supervising limited staff and making operational decisions including divestment.
• Senior negotiator on successful asset acquisitions at Kazakhstan Tengiz, Venezuela Cerro Negro and Peru Camisea. Primary Dallas commercial advisor for successful negotiations on the Qatargas LNG venture and on exploration concessions in Kazakhstan, Peru and Bolivia.
• Commercial advisor during negotiations for Russian (West Siberia) production optimization proposal and on Sakhalin I bid.
