FACILITIES ENGINEERING - WHO NEEDS IT ANYWAY?

Ken Arnold is a well know figure in the SPE Gulf Coast Section and the engineering community in Houston. This talk is NOT a talk for just Facilities Engineers. It’s for anyone involved in project or field development that needs to have a better understanding of how sound Facilities Engineering practices can positively impact projects. His talk will briefly touch on the history of the field of Facilities Engineering, in order to set the stage for how this role has evolved into the critical place it holds today.

There are some common errors made by people who are “unenlightened” when it comes to facilities engineering. These mistakes can occur in even the simplest of facilities, and can include:

§         Piping spec break locations

§         Relief valve sizing

§         Understanding how compressors interact in the system

§         Pressure drop in two phase pipelines.

These examples and a few others will be discussed during the talk, so that you can avoid making these same mistakes on your projects!

In addition to the increasing visibility and value of Facilities Engineers, there are also some emerging technologies that are becoming critical tools when it comes to designing & installing new facilities. The emergence of both process and project management technologies that you should be aware of (and be utilizing!) will be discussed.

Attendees will walk away from this meeting with a new appreciation for the critical role that Facilities Engineers play when it comes to field development and ways they can better leverage the expertise they already have in-house. You’ll never wonder again why you need a Facilities Engineer!
