Iraq: State of the Oil Industry (Slides not available)

IRAQ’S CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION CAPACITY

Iraq possesses substantial hydrocarbon reserves: 40 discovered fields with a potential production capacity of 4.5 mm b/d and many promising exploration opportunities. Production currently remains less than 2.5 mm b/d, however.

This presentation, prepared by Thamir A. Ghadhban, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iraq, amplified with Mike Stinson’s experience on the ground, provides an understanding of the current situation, the challenges for developing Iraqi resources, and government efforts to meet those challenges in partnership with international oil companies. It will review Iraq’s resource base, current production and near term forecast. The future outlook for capacity expansion and the role of international oil companies will also be covered, followed by comments on the legal framework for Iraq’s energy industry, ongoing reforms, and the role of the Iraq National Oil Company.

Unfortunately, the owner of the presentation given by Mr. Stinson has not given his permission to publish the slides. Apologies to all those who asked for copies.
