Permian Basin - Successful Stimulation of Open Hole Carbonate Formations using Coiled Tubing

Coiled tubing has shown much promise in open-hole stimulation. When pumping acid into an open-hole completion it is difficult to determine precisely where the treatment fluid is going. It is vitally important to insure that the entire interval is being treated adequately to optimize production. It has long been a dilemma to insure total zonal coverage under these well-bore conditions. Many techniques have been attempted throughout the years with mixed results.

This presentation will discuss how coiled tubing and advanced acid technologies have combined to improve the ability to optimize treatment coverage in open-hole completions. Two methods that have been very been successful in the Permian Basin are foam and self-diverting acid systems.  These techniques have worked well in horizontal San Andres open hole completions using large diameter coiled tubing and advanced jetting technology. These combined techologies work to provided enhanced stimulation coverage.
