Northside - Nanotechnology & Microfluidics for the Upstream Petroleum Industry
The success of integrated circuit chips in replacing large vacuum-tube operated computing machines has inspired biologists, chemists and engineers to study miniaturization of other devices in the last few years. Microelectromechanical (MEM) devices, biochips (DNA microchip arrays), lab-on-a-chip devices are being developed. Molecules are being assembled into nanometer-scale functional materials with wide ranging applications. This talk would review the latest developments in nanotechnology and microfluidics. The advantage and disadvantage of this technology will be discussed along with potential applications in the upstream petroleum industry.
