Westside: To Reduce or Extend…That is the Question: A Tale of Stage Length Optimization in the Delaware Basin

Stage length is an integral lever that not only influences completion costs, but also has been shown to have a significant impact on stimulation effectiveness and well performance. This presentation will highlight a comprehensive, full-cycle diagnostic effort to evaluate optimal stage length in the Delaware Basin. It will go through a suite of diagnostic technologies that evaluate fracture performance, including permanent fiber for cross-well and in-well stimulation monitoring, perforation imaging, and pressure monitoring. Additionally, findings from production diagnostics, including interference testing, production logging, and production strain (fiber) acquisition will be covered. Results from the integrated diagnostic pilot, coupled with performance analysis of trial wells, has led to conclusive directional guidance for the completion design testing program as it pertains to stage length.
