Westside: Hybrid Expandable Liner System: A Performance-enhancing, Cost-effective Alternative to Bullhead Refracturing
This presentation will describe a novel approach to refracturing in the Barnett Shale, combining the advantages of bullhead and plug and perforation techniques. It will introduce the Hybrid Expandable Liner System, which optimizes the completion design for wells with wider cluster spacing and longer laterals. Utilizing gas phase chemical tracers, a comparison is made of the performance of bullhead and plug and perforation stages within the original completion interval. The results show that the hybrid system significantly outperforms traditional methods, delivering double the production performance on both an overall and stage-by-stage basis. The expandable liner system presented is a novel approach to refracturing that not only improves production but also offers the benefit of a large inner diameter, thus facilitating higher pump rates and enabling efficient cleanout operations. The findings highlight the potential of this hybrid approach in maximizing refracturing effectiveness, providing a valuable option for longer laterals with wide cluster spacing.
