Northside: Estimating Well Integrity in Abandoned Wells
This presentation will explore various methods of estimating or inferring the integrity of wells that have been abandoned in the past. The purposes of this estimation include abandoned well re-entries and the use of the field for various injection schemes such as carbon sequestration. Obviously, well integrity cannot be determined directly through logs or test in a well that has cement or other plug types installed with the wellhead cut off below ground level. There are means to estimate the integrity; however, most of these techniques involve probabalistic risk analysis methodology. Well deterioration after plugging is often the greatest unknown.
