Westside In-Person: Methodology for Lowering Well Costs and Increasing Production
The optimization of completions in unconventional reservoir wells has proceeded at a slow pace, primarily through trial and error, the continued development of new measurement technologies, the search for “silver bullet” techniques or materials, the learning curve of optimum well spacing, and many other factors. The lower the permeability of a reservoir, the slower that reservoir is going to reveal its prime productive and drainage nature. All of this has led our industry to “creep” to an optimum design through population of “statistical” models with 100’s to 1000’s of wells. But what if it were possible to take a relative handful of wells and analyze their production and the completions employed to significantly accelerate cost reductions while enhancing production results. This presentation will present a methodology that achieves this goal. The data to populate this methodology already exist, thus no data acquisition expense is involved; the analyses are inexpensive; and the benefits are extensive. Case histories will be presented, and invigorating discussion is anticipated.
