Development of Elastomer Compounds and Seals: A Case Study in Upstream Oil & Gas

When the Upstream Oil & Gas market pushes the frontiers of technology, the effort encompasses many components within the tools, including o-rings. O-rings are typically manufactured from elastomer compounds, which have different properties depending on  the  raw materials from which it is composed. Framed through the product development process, this presentation will walk through the basics of elastomer technology and the methodology for developing a compound that achieves a desired balance of properties.  Further, a typical test plan from initial screening of candidate compounds to final validation testing aligned with  the application will be reviewed  The audience will walk away from the presentation with an enhanced understanding of how to best collaborate with elastomer compound and seal manufacturers on innovation aligned with the next generation of oilfield equipment.
