Drilling - Implementation of a Slim Hole Casing Design utilizing Expandable Tubulars in the East Texas Bossier

Implementation of a Slim Hole Casing Design utilizing Expandable tubulars in the East Texas Bossier

In August 2004 Burlington Resources sanctioned development of their high temperature/high pressure Deep Bossier discovery in Robertson County, Texas.

In an effort to reduce development drilling costs in an escalating price environment Burlington elected to pursue a novel approach to slim well design which incorporates the use of solid expandable tubulars (SET). Utilizing these expandable systems in the original well design has enabled Burlington to drill a smaller wellbore and reach total depth (TD) with a larger hole size while achieving the desired completion strategy and flow rates.  The successful implementation of expandable tubular technology yields economic benefit by reducing drilling time through certain geologic sections.

This presentation will describe the evolution of Burlington’s G3 (third generation) slim hole well design and a case history of Burlington’s drilling experience to date.
