Webinar: CFD Modeling of the Drilling, Completions, and Production Applications

Numerical modeling of the drilling, completions, and production applications involves a combination of various physical phenomena in a wide range of length scales, operating with complex multiphase non-Newtonian fluids. The tools and equipment commonly experience high flow velocities and must withstand erosion and corrosion of the drilling muds, fracturing/cement slurries, and production fluids. In many cases, the modeling requires fluid-structure interaction and a combination of the modeling of flow in mechanical devices and the reservoir.

The downhole tools, operating at high ambient temperatures, also require thermal management solutions for high-power electronics, performing various measurements and transferring the data to the surface. Turbomachinery components, such as mixers, turbines, and pumps, commonly involve CFD-driven design optimizations in their development and optimization.

The downhole tools require high reliability, with some equipment operating for decades in harsh environments and making autonomous adjustments to the production from different zones.  Virtual Verification and Validation become a norm to qualify the new designs and improve the existing ones. The transition to digitalization and new energy further expanded the traditional modeling techniques to involve machine learning, prognostics, and greenhouse gas emission reduction.

This webinar aims to bring together experts in academia and industry to brainstorm and discuss and help us better understand the current state-of-the-art approach to this vital process and its applications. This workshop will include short talks by key practitioners covering various aspects of CFD modeling, followed by a group discussion.
