Beyond 8,000 Feet -- The Challenge of Ultradeepwater Intervention

As exploration programs probe ever deeper water and the environment becomes more challenging, new approaches to subsea intervention are needed.  This workshop will explore the technologies and methods required for cost-effective subsea interventions in ultradeep water.

Case study presentations from operators will address the numerous challenges of ultradeepwater exploration including the equipment issues involved in HP/HT and subsea processing.  As one operator stated, "If you think 15K equipment was tough, try 20K."  This will be followed by a number of smaller workshops to identify both key issues and potential solutions.  Technology snapshots, presented at various times throughout the workshop, will feed the discussion and search for solutions.  Potential topics include deepwater installation, module change out, hydrate detection and remediation, HPHT, HIPPS, and subsea processing requirements.  The actual topics will be determined by the participants in the workshop interaction.

This workshop is targeted at subsea operations and intervention engineers in the operating companies and deepwater technology providers in the vendor community.  The goal is for each participant to leave with a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with interventions in ultradeep water and increased awareness of some potential solutions.  Interventions inside the wellbore will not be addressed in this workshop.
