Fracture Characterization Using Fiber Optic Sensing Technologies

The presentation will be a case study of a project named the MSEEL (Marcellus Shale Energy and Environmental Laboratory) containing a pad with 6 hydraulically fractured wells. The wells are highly instrumented with two containing fiber optic cables – one permeant and the other wireline deployed. The case study will focus on the fiber diagnostic data and how to use it to measure fracture stimulation efficiency. A single stage will be highlighted that demonstrates how to make connections between the in-well fiber and cross-well fiber data in terms of the strain, temperature, and microseismic measurements gathered from each cable.
