Introduction to Bond Log Interpretation Workshop
‘Reading Cement Bond Logs’ is a useful skill to know and practice. Almost every person in the upstream oil and gas industry, sooner or later, will encounter a bond log. Often when we do observe a bond log, it can be quite confusing. An understanding of the basics of bond logs and the techniques of interpretation are needed to accurately predict if the cemented well is providing zonal isolation.
This workshop reviews the basics of the bond logging tools, and details a five-step method of interpretation that helps to remove the confusion of bond log interpretation. The method focuses on the real wellbore effects that distort the sound waves that we sometimes see on the log. Sonic (CBL and Radial Logs) and ultrasonic logs (USIT, CAST, IBC) are outlined, and examples from all over the world are presented, which highlight their usefulness and importance in constructing oil and gas wells.
